August 23, 2005
Over 1000 casino lovers showed up for a ceremony which marked a $250 million casino project to be built next to the French Lick Springs Resort. It will be Indiana's 11th casino. The casino expects to hold 1000 slot machines and 25 tables for games including blackjack and poker.
A share of the casino's profit will be utilized for economic development, education and historic preservation projects. Developers are hopeful that the casino with the two resorts nearby will have around 1400 employees and its annual salaries and benefits will run up to $32 million. The casino project has given a hope to the town people to bring down the unemployment rates which are comparatively on the higher side. They also talk about community development which can occur as a result of the casino project.
