Pauma Casino's hush hush expansion lands them in trouble
August 8, 2005
A small expansion at the Pauma Indian Casino has sparked off a conflict between the North County tribe and country government. Pauma breached its compact by opening a small casino addition without informing the county.
According to the gambling agreements signed last year, the tribes were allowed unlimited number of slot machines. But significant impacts from the environment, traffic and water resources were looked upon before allowing casino expansions. Pauma recently added a 7,200 square foot extension to increase Casino slot inventory from 200 machines to 1050 but without the county's knowledge. The governor is looking into the matter and necessary steps will be taken.
