Only weekend leisure from now on says Catawba Bingo
August 16, 2005
Catawba Bingo will reduce its business hours following the impact of South Carolina Education Lottery, a Bingo official confirmed. The chief operating officer of New River Management and Development who also checks the economic development for the Catawba Indian Nation announced that the new weekend move is to reduce daily operational expenses and to make business more profitable.
Catawba tribal member Deborah Crisco condemned the move and called it a plan to get the state's attention to convey that they are going broke. Though Catawba Bingo netted $2million in 2001, last year their net revenue settled between $300,000 and $400,000.
The New River officials' decision to reduce working hours will certainly affect the local bingo business. Officials say that once the Bingo crowd finds another place to play it's hard to get them back.
