Tilsonburg town out of the Bingo Game
August 12, 2005
Two thumbs down by the Tilsonburg town council for a bingo hall at the southern end of the town shattered many a man's Bingo dreams. Lack of parking space, rush and religious reasons were the main reasons which influenced the council's decision.
The first request had been made for a Brock Street East building. Husted family came up with the second request. Acting for Stauffer's Motors, lawyer Tom Heeney challenged the bingo application and argued that his clients had business in the evening and needed the parking lots. Also Tilsonburg town council lawyer Ian Linton made a point that there would be no bingo during normal working hours as it would take up parking spaces during the regular business hours. The church also opposed Bingo game ethically, morally and religiously.
